Install and configure VSS-VPN

Instructions below refer to OpenVPN access. Similarly detailed instructions for WireGuard access are still pending. In the meantime, to try out WireGuard VPNs, please visit the preliminary vskey WireGuard management page.

Mac OS:

Mac OS X install instructions

Download and install Tunnelblick OpenVPN client
Fetch the vskey-vn.ovpn and vskey-vn.crt files from the VSS-VPN gateway.
Double click on vskey-vn.ovpn.
Select whether the VPN will be available for All users or Only you. Type in your admin credentials.
Select Done.
Go to the taskbar and look for the Tunnelblick icon, click on it and select "Connect vskey-vn".
Type your VSKEY credentials.

Windows:

Download and install the OpenVPN client.
Fetch the configuration file(s):
1. (Windows 11)
  Please visit VSS unified OpenVPN to have a unified configuration file sent via email.
2. (other versions)
  1. Fetch the vskey-vn.ovpn and vskey-vn.crt files from the VSS-VPN gateway.
  2. Copy both configuration files to OpenVPN configuration directory:
```
    C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config\
```
    or, with Windows 7 ...
```
    C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\OpenVPN\Config\
```
    or
```
    C:\Users\\OpenVPN\Config\
```
Run OpenVPN as Administrator (right-click on OpenVPN Icon and click "Run as Administrator").
Search for the icon in the taskbar and click connect.
Type your VSKEY credentials.
Please NOTE:
Do not forget to run OpenVPN as Administrator.
Otherwise the necessary network routes will not be installed
and VSS-specific traffic will not be forwarded through the VPN.

Android (4.x or later):

Download and install the OpenVPN Connect Android app, from the VSS-VPN gateway or from Google Play.

BUT instead of step 3 (install the configuration), visit VSS unified OpenVPN to have the configuration file sent via email. That email will include instructions on how to handle the attached configuration.

iOS (iPhone/iPad):

Install the OpenVPN Connect iOS app from iTunes / the IOS App Store.

BUT instead of step 2 (install the configuration), visit VSS unified OpenVPN to have the configuration file sent via email. That email will include instructions on how to handle the attached configuration.

Ubuntu Linux:

Install Network Manager (OpenVPN) using apt-get:

    [on Ubuntu-14.04]
        $ sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn
     
    [on Ubuntu-16.04]
        $ sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn network-manager-openvpn-gnome

Download the vskey-vn.ovpn and the vskey-vn.crt (to the same directory)
From the network manager drop down, choose "Configure VPN"
Choose "Add" .
Choose "Import a saved VPN configuration..." and click "Create".
Select the vskey-vn.ovpn file and confirm that the vskey-vn.crt file is in the same directory.
Input your VSS username, and choose your password preference.
Choose the "IPv4 Settings" tab, click the "Routes..." button and select "Use this connection only for resources on its network."
Click "OK", then "Save", then "Close".
Activate the VPN and test your vpn connection.
