ITS Private Cloud | Getting started
Please NOTE:   A VSKEY account is required for access to the VSS environment. If you do not yet have a VSKEY account, please contact us by emailing   vss @ eis.utoronto.ca.

Step-by-step guide:

  1. Initialize your VSKEY account. (steps here ).

  2. Install and configure the VSS VPN client. (steps here ).

  3. (optional) try the introductory micro-course "Managing Virtual Machines on the ITS Private Cloud".

  4. Visit the VSS Portal:
    1. Start a VSS VPN to allow connections to vSphere.
    2. Browse to vss-portal.eis.utoronto.ca
    3. Click on the (+) button to request a new virtual machine.
    4. Fill out the Virtual Machine (VM) specification as required.
    5. If the new VM will not require a specific network, then in the network tab, select one of
      • VSS-CGN for systems which will not require access from off-campus.
      • VSS-PUBLIC for systems which can expect to be accessed from off-campus.
The new VM will then be assigned a permanent IP address via DHCP.

Note:   IP address space in those network segments is limited.   If your group or department needs more than a handful of new VMs, please make contact with Network Engineering to have a network segment assigned for your use.

  5. Connect to your VM using one of:
    1. The Console Button on the [screen] icon via the VSS Portal vss-portal.eis.utoronto.ca
    2. The vSphere Client via https://vcenter.eis.utoronto.ca/ui
